Sharandeep Singh, fondly known as ‘Burger Chachu’, has made headlines again by creating a colossal 112-kg vegetarian burger, setting a new world record.

Sharandeep, a 33-year-old resident of Tagore Nagar in Hoshiarpur, collaborated with Grand Mercure Hotel in Agra, to achieve this feat in an event held in November last year.

The event, organised by Sharandeep and the hotel, was more than just a showcase of culinary skills — it was a celebration of innovation and tradition. The massive burger, which was later distributed free of cost among over 200 students, was designed to highlight India’s rich culinary heritage while embracing modern and Western influences.

Sharandeep’s creation was a layered masterpiece, loaded with fresh vegetables and millet, offering a healthier alternative to conventional fast food.

He explained that the burger contained a variety of ingredients, including 20 kg of millet buns, 6 kg of fries, 5 kg each of tomatoes, cucumbers, wedges and onions, 12 kg of different types of mayonnaise and sauces, 10 kg of cheese, 8 kg of coleslaw, 4 kg of bell peppers, 10 kg of tikki, 5 kg of lettuce, 9 kg of tinned food and 4 kg of masala, among other items.

He said while this world record was attempted in November 2023, however, it was officially declared a world record in the second week of August when he received the certification and award.

Earlier, Sharandeep had made a 7-kg burger, 6-kg sandwich, a 15-kg burger, a 20-kg burger, a 25-kg burger, a 11-kg sandwich and a 45-kg veggie burger in December 2022.

“This time, my goal was to create the biggest burger ever, so I decided to make it of over 100 kg and we made this 112-kg giant burger,” Sharandeep said proudly.

Reflecting on his journey, Sharandeep said he started his career in the culinary world 14 years ago after graduating in Hotel Management and Catering Technology. He worked at a five-star hotel in Hyderabad, living his dream of cooking professionally. However, the sudden death of his father and a robbery at his home forced him to return to Hoshiarpur to support his family.

“In July 2016, I decided to follow my passion despite the challenges. I borrowed money from my boss, bought a cart and started selling burgers on the street. My oil-and butter-free burgers quickly gained popularity among locals, and within months, I opened my own restaurant, Six10 Burger”, he said.

He said as his hard work paid off, he soon expanded his business to Ludhiana.
