Hoshiarpur: To protest against anti-farmer ordinances introduced by the Centre, the grain market of Hoshiarpur will stay closed on August 21. “There will be no business in the grain market on August 21,” said Sudhir Sood, president, Hoshiarpur Arhtiya Association. Sood said the Centre’s decision would lead to a few big companies taking control over farmers. He said the Punjab Government has yet not paid commission to arhtiyas and wages to labourers for lifting paddy in 2019. This year, commission of wheat procured by the Food Corporation of India would not be paid to arhtiyas, he said and added that they would submit a memorandum to an official concerned in this regard. Ramesh Kumar Gupta, Rajesh Gupta and Vipan Gupta, among others were also present. OC
