Hoshiarpur welcomes historic Nagar Kirtan

The Punjab Government is commemorating the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, Bhai Mati Das, Bhai Sati Das and Bhai Dayala with full devotion. The first of four grand Nagar Kirtans, which began in Srinagar and passed through Pathankot, reached Mukerian in Hoshiarpur district on Friday afternoon.

The Nagar Kirtan was welcomed with a shower of flowers and a guard of honour. A contingent of the Punjab Police presented the guard of honour to Guru Granth Sahib. The Panj Pyare and prominent figures were also honoured on this occasion. The Nagar Kirtan passed through Dasuha and Garhdiwala and reached Gurudwara Sri Rampur Khera for the night halt.

On Saturday, the Nagar Kirtan will again receive a guard of honour at Gurudwara Sri Rampur Khera, after which it will proceed to Anandpur Sahib via Bhunga, Hariana, Hoshiarpur, Chabbewal, Mahilpur and Garhshankar.

MP Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal welcomed the Nagar Kirtan in Mukerian. He was accompanied by constituency in-charge Prof GS Multani, Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain, SSP Sandeep Kumar Malik, Chairman of the Municipal Improvement Trust Gurvinder Singh Pabla, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Nikas Kumar, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Amarbir Kaur Bhullar, SP Major Singh, SDM Mukerian Ankur Mahendru.

MP Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal said the life and philosophy of Guru Tegh Bahadur are a guide for all. He said this would be the first time in history that a special session of the Assembly would be held outside Chandigarh. This special session was a tribute from all of humanity to the unparalleled sacrifice made by the ninth Sikh Guru for humanity.

On this occasion, Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain and SSP Sandeep Kumar Malik said that the district residents were enthusiastic about welcoming the Nagar Kirtan.

Civil and police officials, representatives of religious organisations and a large number of devotees were present on this occasion.
