Phagwara: Phagwara MLA Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal, along with Additional Deputy Commissioner Gurmit Singh Multani, on Wednesday distributed Rs 50 lakh among 40 families to construct cemented houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Dhaliwal and Multani after distributing allotment letters told newsmen that another instalment of the financial aid would be provided to 60 other beneficiaries on Friday. Congress councillors Munish Parbhakar, Bunty Walia, Ravinder Ravi, Sita Devi, Ram Pal Uppal were also present on the occasion. OC

Electrical shop burgled

Phagwara: An electrical goods shop was reportedly burgled at Panchhat village in Phagwara subdivision on Tuesday. The owner of the shop, Amarjit Singh, a resident of Nadalon village, told the police that when he opened the shop on Wednesday, he found its shutters broken and 34 batteries, used in tractors, motorcycles and cars missing. The police have registered a case under Sections 457 and 380 of the IPC. OC

Gold jewellery, valuables stolen

Phagwara: The house of Sanjeev Duggal was reportedly burgled in the Model Town locality on Tuesday. Suspects entered the house after breaking the locks and decamped with valuables, including gold ornaments. The exact loss could not be ascertained yet. The police have registered a case under Sections 457 and 380 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). OC

Protest against poor roads

Phagwara: Residents of Amrik Nagari and Bhularai Colony sat on a dharna in front of the office of the SDM at the Tehsil Complex on Wednesday. The protesters alleged that despite repeated requests, roads linking the localities are lying in a poor condition and nothing has been done in this regard. They also handed over a memorandum to the tehsildar. OC
