To mark World Health Day, the local branch of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), organised a comprehensive health awareness talk for the general public here today. The event was aimed at spreading awareness about this year’s theme for the day — “Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures”, which emphasises the importance of maternal health and fetal well-being.

Dr Tushar Aggarwal, president of IMA Phagwara, formally inaugurated the event and addressed the attendees. He stated that World Health Day is celebrated globally every year on April 7 under the leadership of the World Health Organization (WHO), and each year brings focus to a specific area of public health concern. This year’s theme, he said, underlines the critical role of healthcare in the early stages of life, particularly focusing on the health of mothers and their unborn children.

Two prominent medical professionals — Dr Davinder K Singh and Dr Kirti Mahajan Sharma — delivered informative health talks aimed at the general public. Their sessions included practical advice and medical insights on prenatal care, nutrition for expectant mothers, mental and physical well-being during pregnancy, and the importance of early screening and diagnostics.

Dr GB Singh elaborated on the significance of World Health Day and the growing need for public participation in preventive healthcare. He urged the public to make health a lifelong priority and be more proactive about accessing healthcare facilities and information.

Dr Poonam, secretary, IMA Phagwara, laid emphasis on organising community-centric initiatives and accessible health education. “Creating awareness among the general public is one of the pillars of IMA’s community outreach. We are proud to contribute towards a healthier society,” she stated.

Adding a touch of creativity to the event, nursing students presented beautifully designed posters themed on World Health Day.
