In a bid to combat mosquito-borne diseases, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Phagwara has launched a distribution drive for mosquito nets, Odomos tubes and mosquito repellent coils in several villages across the region.

The initiative, spearheaded by IMA Phagwara President Dr Tushar Aggarwal and supervised by Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Jashanjeet Singh, aims to provide immediate relief to rural communities. A small but significant batch of supplies has been mobilised, with contributions from IMA members to support the cause.

“Preventive healthcare is often more effective than curative measures, especially in rural areas where access to medical facilities can be limited,” said Dr Aggarwal. He emphasised that IMA Phagwara remains committed to regularly organising such initiatives to reduce the risk of vector-borne diseases like dengue and malaria.

The distribution will focus on economically weaker households and vulnerable sections of society. IMA volunteers will personally ensure that the supplies reach those most in need.

SDM Jashanjeet Singh commended the association’s efforts, highlighting that community-driven initiatives complement government public health campaigns. “Partnerships between civil society and medical professionals are vital for strengthening grassroots healthcare,” he said.

With rising cases of mosquito-related illnesses in several Punjab districts, health experts have stressed the urgency of preventive measures. The IMA Phagwara’s timely initiative aims not only to offer immediate relief but also to raise awareness about the importance of mosquito control in rural communities.
