VB arrests deed writer

Phagwara: The Vigilance Bureau (VB) arrested Pawan Kumar, a deed writer at Goraya sub-tehsil in Jalandhar district on Thursday, for accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000. A VB spokesperson said deed writer was arrested on the basis of an online complaint filed by Phagwara resident in which he alleged that the accused had demanded and accepted bribe for the execution of a sale deed. During investigation, the VB found allegations to be true, leading to the arrest of the accused.

Man duped of Rs 4.91 lakh

Phagwara: The Mehatpur police have booked a travel agent couple for allegedly duping a man of Rs 4.91 lakh on the pretext of sending his children abroad. Shahkot DSP Onkar Singh Brar said the accused were identified as Budh Dass and his wife Charanjit Kaur of Bajigar Dera under the Salem Taabri police station in Ludhiana. Sukhdev Raj of Sangowl village complained to the police that he paid Rs 4.91 lakh to the accused for facilitating migration of his children abroad. However, they neither sent his children abroad nor returned money.
