Indian Railways Delhi enter Surjit Hockey quarter-finals; Punjab & Sind Bank Delhi out

Former champions Punjab & Sind Bank Delhi secured their first victory in the 42nd Indian Oil Servo Surjit Hockey Tournament by defeating Indian Air Force 2-1, but were eliminated from the quarter-final race on goal average. The tournament's fifth day was held at the Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium in Jalandhar.

On the fifth day of this tournament, Indian Railways Delhi defeated Army XI Delhi 2-0 to enter the quarter-finals. The first league match was played between Punjab & Sind Bank Delhi and Indian Air Force in Pool B. In the 35th minute of the game, Jaskaran Singh scored a goal for the Bank to make the score 1-0. In the 37th minute, Rahul Rajbhar of the Indian Air Force scored a goal to make the score 1-1. In the 47th minute of the game, Jaskaran Singh of the Bank scored a goal to win the match by making the score 2-1 and earned three points by winning the first victory in the league matches. In Pool B, Punjab Police, Indian Air Force and Punjab and Sind Bank Delhi have three points each in the league matches. But on the basis of better goal average, the teams of Punjab Police and Indian Air Force entered the quarter-finals.

The second match was played between Indian Railways Delhi and Army XI Delhi in Pool D. In the 22nd minute of the game, Parampreet Singh scored a goal for the Indian Railways to make the score 1-0. In the last minute of the game, Lovepreet Singh of the Indian Railways scored a goal to make the score 2-0.

By winning today's match, Indian Railways secured the first position in the pool by earning four points from two league matches and entered the quarter-finals.
