Jalandhar: Cultural committee of Innocent Hearts Group of Institutions organised International Women’s Day with the theme ‘Each for equal’. Three guests: Sharmila Nakra (cultural head and motivational speaker), Meenu Wahi (dietician) and Charanjit Singh (karate coach) were invited to empower the girls. Nakra emphasised on happiness, health, honesty, humility and high thinking of women. She stated that each woman must upgrade her knowledge base to get success in every phase of life. Meenu Wahi focused on sound mind state of women. She highlighted the importance of eating seasonal food with balanced diet for healthy lifestyle. Charanjit Singh provided tips of self-defence to girl students.

Seminar on simple marriages

Jalandhar: Lyallpur Khalsa College organised a seminar on ‘Dowry Prohibition Act and initiations towards simple marriages’ as the part of the week-long Punjab government’s celebration of International Woman’s Day. The purpose of the seminar was to create awareness and to promote thinking regarding pertinent women issues. The chief guest on the occasion was Amrik Singh, Child Development Project Officer with Department of Social Security, Women and Child Development. The main speaker on the occasion was Ramanpreet Kaur, Creative Advisor to the department. She emphasised the need for gender equality in every section as well as facet of society. Principal Dr GS Samra encouraged the girl students to be brave, break their shells and lead a life full of confidence.

Lecture on thermodynamics

Jalandhar: An expert talk was organised by Social Sensitisation Committee, department of mechanical engineering of Lyallpur Khalsa College of Engineering. Faculty and students of Semester IV and VI of Mechanical Department participated in this event. Dr Sunil Kumar Mahla (Assistant Prof, IKGPTU Campus, Hoshiarpur) delivered lecture on ‘Application of applied thermodynamics in renewable energy resources’. He discussed the emerging issues of health hazards caused by stubble burning and discussed various methods to curb it. He also motivated the students to research in the field of renewable energy resources. TNS
