The national-level gathering, organised at Pragati Maidan, aimed to bring together individuals from across the country who are dedicated to the protection and rejuvenation of rivers.
During the ceremony, Seechewal shared that the restoration of the sacred Kali Bein - blessed by Guru Nanak Dev - was initiated in July 2000. Over a span of 25 years, the 165-kilometer river has been cleaned so thoroughly that its water is now potable. Former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam was deeply inspired by this sacred river and had, in many ways, become a messenger for its cause. A documentary on the Kali Bein was screened for the attendees, showcasing how pollution from nearby villages and towns was systematically stopped through effective management.
Speakers at the event, organised by the Indian River Council, echoed Sant Seechewal's belief that the conservation of India's rivers is impossible without public participation. The successful rejuvenation of the Kali Bein stands as a powerful example of community involvement.
Several personalities in the field of river conservation were present, including Padma Shri awardees Kanwal Singh Chauhan, Setpal Singh, Bharat Bhushan Tyagi, Uma Shankar Pandia and Popat Rai Panwar.
