‘Issue dependent certificates to kin of those killed in mishaps’

District and Sessions Judge, who is also Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Dilbag Singh Johal held a meeting with the members of the District Legal Services Authority here on Friday.
Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal was also present on the occasion. The District and Sessions Judge gave instructions to run the schemes related to NALSA smoothly. He reviewed the free legal services being provided by the DLSA and residents of the district should take maximum advantage of the services.
The Sessions Judge told the district administration that the dependent certificates must be issued to the dependents of those killed in road accidents as soon as possible so that a compensation of Rs 2 lakh can be given to the dependents on time.
The Sessions Judge directed to promote the National Lok Adalat to be held on September 14 as much as possible. He appealed to the residents of the district to take advantage of the National Lok Adalat by filing as many cases as possible. He said this saves both time and money. He said the decision of the Lok Adalat has the recognition of a civil decree.
Dilbag Singh Johal informed that 13,591 cases were heard in the National Lok Adalats in May 2024 and 11,381 cases were settled on the spot and awards worth Rs 8,76,73,569 were passed. The DLSA Secretary said from April to June, 374 people were given legal aid and 131 people given legal advice by the DLSA.
Apart from this, 10 cases were resolved in 75 seminars, mediation and conciliation centres by the authority and nine cases were decided on the spot through the camp court at Central Jail and culprits were released. He said under the Victim Compensation Scheme, decisions were made in nine cases from April to June and awards worth Rs 23,10,000 were passed in these cases.
On the occasion, Additional District and Sessions Judge Jaswinder Sheenhmar, CJM-cum-Secretary District Legal Services Authority Raj Pal Rawal, CJM Prabhjot Singh, SP Manoj Kumar, District Attorney Varinder Kumar, Assistant Public Relations Officer Lokesh Kumar, Aajpal Singh Sahni, Darshan Kaushal and Kiranpreet Kaur Dhami were also present.
