A whopping 45 cases of Covid have been reported in the first three days of July alone, with two fatalities on Friday and Saturday.

While the district saw 96 cases in April, 66 were reported in May. In June, 181 cases were reported. June also recorded the first Covid-related death in the district in the past three months. A person died of the virus on June 12, taking the district toll to 1,579. Before that, the last casualty reported in Jalandhar was on March 1. However, with two deaths in July, the Covid death toll has reached 1,581.

Notably, a 344-bed government hospital, 1,169-bed private facility and level-2 arrangements have been put in place by the Health Department for emergency use in case the need arises.

On the two recent deaths, Civil Surgeon Dr. Raman Sharma said: “Both the Covid victims had multiple problems or co-morbidities. The Covid scenario is being closely watched and is currently under control.”
