Phagwara: The Nurmahal police have arrested a woman drug peddler on the charge of selling heroin. SHO Krishan Gopal said 20 gram of heroin was recovered from the possession of the accused Resham Kaur, alias Manni, of Nurmahal. A case under Sections 21-B/61/85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused. The Nakodar police arrested a woman Sunita of Lohar village with 6 gram of heroin. The Mehatpur police booked a woman Ranni of Kasba Mohalla, Mehatpur, and her son Raja for selling poppy husk and recovered from them 62 kg of poppy who managed to flee from the spot, said IO Niranjan Singh. Three booked for dowry

Phagwara: The Shahkot police have charged a man, his mother and father for torturing his wife after she was unable to satisfy his demands for more dowry. A case under sections 498-A of the IPC has been registered against Lovepreet Singh of Kherra village, Ludhiana, presently living in Austria, his mother Kulwindar Kaur and father Pritam Pal. The case was registered on a complaint of Sukhveer Kaur of Punia village. She complained to the police that she was being tortured for bring more dowry. She said the accused beat her up regularly and did not allow her to go out. OC

Three drug addicts held

Phagwara: The Nakodar police have arrested two 'drug addicts' on the charge of consuming heroin. SHO Aman Saini identified the accused as Daler, alias Ankush, and Summit, alias Chand, residents of Mohalla Rishi Nagar. A lighter, a silver paper and a plastic pipe used for consuming contraband were recovered from their possession. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused. The police arrested 'drug addict' Satpal, alias Dabb, of Pati Neelo Wal, Bilga, for consuming heroin. OC

18 booked for assault

Phagwara: The Nakodar police have booked 18 villagers on the charge of assaulting a co-villager. The accused have been identified as Dapindar, Jiwan, Jiti, Sukhpreet, Happy, another Jiti Ram and their 12 accomplices, all residents of Nurpur Chatha village. Surjit Singh, a resident of the same village, complained to the police that he was sitting in a room of Bhagwan Balmik Temple when the accused entered the temple and attacked him with sharp-edged weapons and seriously injured him on May 18 late evening and ransacked CCTV cameras, water cooler and other items of the temple. A case has been registered against the accused. The police also booked two villagers of Talwann village for assaulting Harbhajan Lal of the same village. OC

Farmers memo to SDM

Phagwara: The Bharatiya Kisan Union (Doaba) submitted a memorandum to Phagwara SDM Jasanjit Singh on Tuesday, urging authorities to widen rural link roads by filling their edges with soil. The delegation was led by the Union’s General Secretary, Satnam Singh Sahni. OC
