Deputy Commissioner Dr Himanshu Aggarwal felicitated sisters Tanvi Sharma and Radhika Sharma for their exceptional achievements in badminton at both national and international levels. The players were presented with a cash award of Rs 1 lakh and trophies by the District Badminton Association.

The ceremony was also attended by Punjab and District Badminton Association Secretary Ritin Khanna. Dr Aggarwal, who also heads the District Badminton Association, shared that Tanvi Sharma has made history by becoming the world number one in the Under-19 Junior Badminton category, the first player from Punjab to achieve this remarkable milestone. Additionally, Radhika Sharma holds the top spot in the country for mixed doubles.

Praising the sisters’ talent, dedication and hard work, Dr Aggarwal noted that they have brought pride to both Punjab and the nation. He described them as a source of inspiration for young athletes, encouraging them to follow in their footsteps.

Dr Aggarwal also expressed his best wishes for the sisters’ continued success in their future sporting endeavours and assured that the district administration would provide all possible support to help them reach even greater heights. He emphasised that the Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is continuously striving to promote sports and encourage youth participation at every level.

In addition, Dr Aggarwal acknowledged the significant contribution of the sisters’ mother and coach, Meena Sharma, who has played a pivotal role in their success. He commended her for not only raising the sisters but also guiding them in the right direction, helping them achieve their extraordinary accomplishments.
