Dr Rahul Sood (50), who works at Kidney Hospital here and resides in Jalandhar Heights-2, made some purchases and was heading towards his car in the parking area when three youths loitering there surrounded him. The three attacked him, but Dr Sood resisted, after which they fired a gunshot at his leg and fled the spot.
The doctor reportedly called some acquaintances from the spot, after which police teams, including Deputy Commissioner of Police Manpreet S. Dhillon and ADCP-2 Harinder Pal S. Gill, arrived. The doctor was rushed back to Kidney Hospital for treatment. The police teams collected CCTV footage from the area to gather evidence.
It is believed that the assailants wanted to steal his car, which the doctor resisted. The victim has denied receiving any extortion calls or having any enemies. The police have reportedly identified the accused based on the motorcycle the three youths used to flee the scene. "We should be able to nab the accused shortly," said a senior officer.
