JCT mill workers slam police for ‘failing’ to act against directors

The workers of the JCT Mill Union, Phagwara, have criticised the local police for their inaction against the mill’s directors after the registration of two FIRs against them.

An urgent meeting was held today by the union president Ravi Sidhu to discuss the issue of pending dues owed to the workers. The meeting was attended by union chairman Sunil Pandey, Shiv Sena (UBT) press secretary Kamal Saroj and former Municipal Councillor Tripti Sharma, among

others.

Sidhu said no arrests were made against the directors who had been allegedly involved in fraudulent practices.

He added that no owners or managers would be allowed to enter the premises of the mill.

Pandey said any attempt to suppress or dismiss the case would be strongly opposed.

Shiv Sena leader Kamal Saroj said, “We will stand firm with the nearly 3,000 workers until every penny of their dues is cleared.”

He warned that if the police tried to harass the workers, they would be held responsible for any adverse consequence.

Saroj also asked the state government to take effective steps to ensure that the workers received their pending wages.

The meeting was attended by several union office bearers, including vice president Shardanand Singh, general secretary Naval Kishore Singh, secretary Anil Mishra, treasurer Dharmendra Singh and media in-charge Madan Kumar Mishra.
