Thought-provoking Opinions, Expert Analysis, In-depth Insights and other Member Only BenefitsA week since three armed robbers had struck at a jewellery shop in Bhargo Camp, the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police has claimed to have recovered the entire gold looted by them.
While the police had arrested the trio - Kushan, Karan and Gagan - involved in the robbery from Ajmer two days ago, the gold recovery was shown by the police on Wednesday. The police claimed that they have made the recovery during their remand which included eight gold sets, 12 gold chains, seven rings and 40 earrings.
The police have also got a video shot by the owner of Vijay Jewellers Ajay Kumar wherein he has said the police have helped them recover their entire jewellery.
Addressing the media this evening, Deputy Commissioner of Police Manpreet Dhillon said, "We have recovered eight gold sets and a black hoodie worn during the incident from Kushal, 40 gold earrings and a black hoodie from Karan, 12 gold chains, seven gold rings, a Hero Splendor bike, a sickle (with which they had smashed glass cases of jewellery) and a red hoodie from Gagan.
The police had also arrested one accused from Ajmer, who had provided shelter to the three robbers after they had fled from Jalandhar. The police are yet to recover the pistol which the accused claim to have handed over to one of their friends after the robbery.
In the case, FIR had been lodged under the BNS and the Arms Act at Bhargo Camp on the complaint of jeweller Ajay Kumar. The robbers had struck the shop minutes after the son of the jeweller had opened it on October 30 at 10:30 am. They had taken away gold at gunpoint from him as was seen in the CCTV footage that had emerged after the incident.
The police had managed to identify the trio as the main accused Kushal had deformity in his right hand which was evident in the CCTV. He was a resident of the same colony and lived just about a km from the shop which he had targeted.
During the recovery of gold from a location in Jalandhar, Kushal reportedly tried to flee by scaling a wall which he could not because of his deformity and thus suffered fracture in his leg too, said DCP Dhillon. Kushal is under treatment at the Civil Hospital in Jalandhar. The police have not disclosed the location from where the gold recovery has been made.
A special police team was formed under the supervision of Manpreet Singh Dhillon (DCP/Investigation), Jayant Puri (ADCP/Investigation), Harinder Singh Gill (ADCP-II), Amarbir Singh (ACP/Crime) and Sarwanjit Singh (ACP/West), in which the police teams of in-charge CIA staff, in-charge Special Cell and in-charge Crime Branch and police station Bhargo Camp conducted raids at various places.
Based on the examination of CCTV cameras, technical assistance and human intelligence information, the trio had been traced from Ajmer.
The police are likely to seek their remand again as they will be produced in the court on Friday after completion of their four-day remand.
