Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gaurav Toora said the crackdown, carried out between January 1 and August 31, 2025, led to the recovery of massive consignments of narcotics along with drug money, while also placing strong focus on rehabilitation.
According to the SSP, the recoveries include 9.19 kg of heroin, 6.91 kg of opium, 234.3 kg of poppy husk, 516 poppy plants, 1.07 kg of intoxicant powder, 1 kg of ganja, 14 gm of ‘ice’, and 63,676 intoxicating tablets. In addition, the police seized Rs 6.72 lakh in drug money from traffickers and peddlers.
Alongside enforcement, rehabilitation efforts have gathered pace. The district police facilitated the admission of 387 addicts to de-addiction centres, while another 850 patients enrolled in Opioid Substitution Therapy (OOAT) centres. “Breaking the supply chain is only one side of the battle. Ensuring that victims of drug addiction are rehabilitated and brought into mainstream of society is equally vital,” Toora said.
At the monthly crime meeting, Toora made it clear that cracking down on drug trafficking remained the top priority. He instructed officers to adopt a zero-tolerance approach against peddlers and warned that no laxity in law and order duties would be tolerated. Officers were told to respond swiftly to distress calls received via the emergency helpline 112 and ensure prompt action on citizen complaints.
Emphasising citizen-friendly policing, the SSP directed his force to deal with the public with sensitivity, fairness, and professionalism, and to resolve disputes amicably wherever possible. He cautioned that even minor issues should not be ignored, as neglect could lead to escalation. Transparency in sharing information with complainants was also stressed.
The meeting was attended by SP (D) Prabhjot Singh Virk, SP Gurmeet Kaur Chahal, DSPs Deepak Singh, Bharat Bhushan, Sukhpal Singh, Daljit Singh, Paramjit Singh, and Murlidhar Kothari, along with Station House Officers from Kapurthala, Phagwara, Sultanpur Lodhi, and Bholath.
While concluding the session, SSP Toora reminded officers present at the meeting that visible, effective policing must begin at the police station level, and performance would be assessed on the basis of initiatives and accountability.
