The BJP Kisan Morcha has announced a protest against the Punjab Government’s land pooling policy, alleging it is aimed at forcibly acquiring farmers’ land. The decision was taken during a key meeting chaired by the morcha’s national secretary Avtar Singh Mand.

Mand said under the campaign — “Save land, save Punjab” — the morcha would stage a symbolic protest by burning an effigy of the Punjab Government tomorrow at 10 am outside the Rest House in Phagwara. This would be followed by a demonstration in front of the SDM office to register opposition to the policy.

According to Mand, the state government’s land pooling policy was formed with an intent to take over farmers’ land and hand it over to political figures from Delhi. He alleged that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was trying to please his superiors in Delhi, who, after being rejected by voters there, had now shifted focus to Punjab’s agricultural lands.

Mand claimed that nearly 60,000 acres across the state was being targeted under this policy, including 200 acres at Bhullarai village in Phagwara. He termed the move “sheer high-handedness” by the government and warned that such “dictatorial” measures would not be tolerated.
