Leaders come to rescue of flood-hit victims, take stock of situation in Hoshiarpur district

He also appreciated the active role of the district administration and social organisations, which are engaged day and night in providing relief material, health services and other necessary assistance to the flood-affected families.
Jimpa said necessary help would be provided to every flood-affected family. He said every possible effort would be made to initiate reconstruction and restore normalcy in the Assembly constituency.
Local Bodies Minister Dr Ravjot Singh today visited Shivalik Nagar in Dholwaha village and took stock of the problems being faced by the villagers during the rainy season. On the occasion, villagers shared their difficulties with the Cabinet Minister, which mainly included problems of water drainage, poor condition of roads and other infrastructure related issues. Dr Ravjot Singh said problems of villagers would be resolved on priority.
Backfinco Punjab Chairman Sandeep Saini today said the Punjab Government was fully alert to deal with the challenge of recent heavy rains and floods. He said extensive arrangements were being made at every level to tackle the present adverse conditions created by heavy rains. The administration was giving top priority to relief and rescue operations in the flood affected areas, he said.
“Special attention is being paid to the supply of relief material, setting up temporary shelter camps, availability of health services and providing drinking water supply in the district. Along with this, the condition of roads and bridges is being continuously monitored so that the movement of people remains safe,” he said.
In Garhshankar, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee coordinator Pankaj Kirpal inspected a road damaged due to heavy rains in Nangal village. Kirpal said, “Due to heavy rains in Nangal, the entire road is flooded. This stretch in Nangal gets damaged every year. Villagers themselves make the road operational every year by laying soil on it. The road can be saved from breaking by making a pulley.”
Rotary Club of Hoshiarpur, under the leadership its president Timatni Ahluwalia and Inner Wheel Club president Neha Sachdeva sent 100 boxes of water bottles and 50 bags of flour to the district administration through Hari Krishna Kajla to help the flood victims.
In view of the extensive damage caused by floods in Punjab, the state committee of the Democratic Employees Federation sent a memorandum to Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann highlighting problems of the flood victims. Federation leaders Mukesh Kumar, Manjit Singh Dasuha and Sukhdev Dansiwal said the state government had failed to prevent devastation caused by floods and provide relief to victims, while the Central Government did not give any financial package to Punjab to deal with the situation. He said Punjab was facing a serious problem of depleting groundwater. The governments had not been able to build necessary infrastructure to store excess water during the rainy season, he said.
“Both the governments are not paying any attention to make necessary arrangements to prevent unexpected floods in the border state,” he added.
