Thought-provoking Opinions, Expert Analysis, In-depth Insights and other Member Only BenefitsA recent incident in Los Angeles, in which a Punjabi Sikh youth identified as Gurpreet Singh was shot dead by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), has sparked an outrage. National BJP leader Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal condemned the act as a “cold-blooded murder of human rights”, calling the police actions a stark violation of the basic human dignity.
Grewal questioned why lethal force was used instead of non-lethal methods like Tasers or beanbag rounds. He described the incident as a public execution that exposed the hypocrisy of America, which positions itself as a global advocate for liberty and human rights. “This is not policing. It’s a disgrace to America’s Constitution and to humanity,” Grewal said.
The leader compared the LAPD’s approach to that of the Punjab Police, which, according to him, exercises restraint in tense situations. He called for immediate justice, urging the Indian Government to address the matter with urgency on behalf of the Sikh community and the nation.
