LPU creates device for hydration monitoring
In the era of fast-paced lives, staying hydrated is crucial for maintaining good health and wellbeing. To acknowledge the significance of hydration, the LPU team developed a smart and user-friendly device called HydroSense, aiming to revolutionise the way individuals hydrate throughout the day. It is set to optimise water consumption and enhance the overall hydration experience.

- HydroSense uses modern sensors and technologies to effectively detect and monitor an individual's water consumption
- The sensor enables accurate measurement of water intake and loss, while microcontroller processes the data for real-time feedback
- Additionally, the heating coil allows for temperature control, ensuring that water remains at its ideal drinking temperature
Under the mentorship of Prof Sumit Basena, students — Ankita Priyadarshni, Ispita Kar, Bhupendra Singh and Kshitji Tamsoy — created this product and their design patent got published.
To ensure people stay hydrated, HydroSense uses modern sensors and technologies to effectively detect and monitor an individual’s water consumption. By utilising a sensor module, a connectivity module and a dedicated mobile application, this device provides personalised suggestions tailored to individual needs, such as activity levels, weather conditions and personal preferences, which are considered to offer optimal hydration guidance.
Dr Ashok Kumar Mittal, Member of Parliament and Founder Chancellor of LPU, said, “HydroSense epitomises LPU’s commitment to fostering innovation and addressing critical aspects of health and wellness. This smart device embodies our dedication to leveraging technology for the betterment of society and individual well-being.”
The device’s core components include sensors, a microcontroller, a heating coil, a battery and a GPS module that work to provide a comprehensive hydration tracking system. The sensor enables accurate measurement of water intake and loss, while the microcontroller processes the data for real-time feedback. Additionally, the heating coil allows for temperature control.
