NRI Dilpreet Singh(28) of Ludhiana and taxi driver Yuvraj Masih were killed on the spot while Gurinder Kaur, mother of the NRI, sustained critical injuries when their taxi rammed into a sugarcane-loaded tractor-trailer near Sugar Mill Chowk on the national highway Phagwara late last night. The injured Gurinder Kaur was first admitted to the local Civil Hospital, but was sent to DMC, Ludhiana, due to her critical condition.

Harpreet, father of the deceased NRI, said his wife was coming back with Dilpreet from Australia and after landing at the Amritsar airport, they were returning to Ludhiana by a taxi which rammed into the tractor-trailer, which was driven without reflectors.

The tractor driver managed to escape leaving the vehicle and the injured in a pool of blood behind. Investigating Officer Jatinder Singh said the police had registered a case against the tractor driver who is still at large. The bodies of the deceased were handed over to their family members after the post-mortem examination.
