A minor girl was raped by her brother-in-law (sister’s husband) at Bilga village here.

Identified as Jagdish Kumar, the Bilga police today booked him for raping his wife’s sister.

The girl, who is a student, was raped on February 4. Her family lodged an FIR in the case today.

Jagdish Kumar, hails from Vehran village under the Mehatpur police station but had been putting up at Bilga along with his wife and in-laws.

Bilga police station SHO Surijt Singh Padda said: “The girl was raped on February 4 when she was alone at home by her brother-in-law. While he threatened her of dire consequences, she did not lodge a complaint. However, he tried to rape her again last night following which the family lodged the complaint today.”

The police said the victim was accompanied by her mother, elder sister and a paternal aunt when the complaint was lodged. The victim complained to the police that the suspect forcibly entered the house on February 4 and committed the crime.

The SHO said a case under Section 376 of the IPC has been registered against Jagdish. While the suspect was currently absconding, raids were on to nab him.— TNS
