A young man from Karmjitpur village near Sultanpur Lodhi has ended his life after allegedly witnessing no action on a police complaint filed against a travel agent, who had taken Rs 25 lakh from him on the pretext of sending him abroad. The case has triggered serious concerns within the Police Department, as the deceased held the travel agent and a DSP responsible for his death in a suicide note.

According to information, Gurpreet Singh, the deceased, had paid Rs 25 lakh to a travel agent from Dadwindi village two years ago. In exchange, the agent had promised to send him abroad.

However, the agent neither sent him abroad nor returned the money. Distressed by the delay and suspected fraud, Gurpreet had submitted a written complaint to the Kapurthala SSP two months ago. The matter was subsequently marked to DSP (NDPS) Sukhpal Singh Randhawa.

Gurpreet and his family alleged that, despite the complaint being forwarded for inquiry, no progress was made.

His father, Boota Singh, said he had repeatedly approached various police offices seeking justice for his son, but no concrete action was taken.

The prolonged delay and lack of resolution reportedly pushed Gurpreet into severe despair.

Gurpreet consumed a poisonous substance at home.

His condition deteriorated quickly, and he was rushed to a private hospital. As his health worsened, he was referred to a private hospital in Jalandhar, where he died.

Before his death, he reportedly wrote a suicide note claiming that the travel agent and the DSP were responsible for his demise.

Following the incident, the grieving family, accompanied by villagers, visited the Sultanpur Lodhi police station on Sunday evening.

They demanded legal action against the travel agent, and the police officer for the alleged negligence.

The family warned that if action was not taken, they would stage a protest.

However, police officials stated that no written statement from the family had been submitted so far.

Meanwhile, DSP Sukhpal Singh Randhawa, who has been named in the suicide note, said the investigation into the matter was underway.

He added that he had already sought bank transaction records related to the complaint, saying appropriate action would be taken.

The case has intensified scrutiny on both the travel agent’s alleged fraudulent activities, and the police’s handling of the complaint.
