Station House Officer (SHO) Ranjit Singh said the accused has been identified as Omesh Kumar, a resident of Mohalla Surania, Nurmahal. The SHO said that the police received information that the accused is cultivating the poppy crop in a plot on Nakodar road owned by a prominent businessman and he was selling sugar-cane juice in front of the plot. The SHO said that the police raided the plot and recovered 82 plants of green poppy crop weighing 4 kilogram. According to the SHO, a case under Section 8(B), 15, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused and Parbodh Kumar, a resident of Mohalla Sant Nagar, Nurmahal, who is the owner of the plot and allowed Omesh to cultivate poppy crop on his plot. Two proclaimed offenders held
Phagwara: The Shahkot police have arrested a proclaimed offender (PO). The investigating officer Sanjvan Singh said that the accused has been identified as Kamal, son of Krishna Kumar, a resident of Sarhala Kalan village in Hoshiarpur and wanted in a case of drug peddling. The Lohian Khas police arrested PO Gurprit Singh alias Bahadar alias Gopi, son of Mohan Singh, a resident of Dalla village in Kapurthala and wanted in a case of assault, said IO Sukhdev Singh. OC
Man goes missing, case registered
Phagwara: A 41-year-old man, a resident of Mohalla Guru Nanak Pura in Nakodar, is missing for the last two days. The woman Roshani complained to the police that her husband Amrik Singh left the house in an inebriated condition on the night of April 8 and did not return home. The investigating officer Govindar Singh said a missing report has been registered in this connection. OC
Villager nabbed for rioting
Phagwara: The Nakodar city police have arrested a villager on the charge of affray and rioting. Investigating officer (IO) Govindar Singh said the accused has been identified as Lovprit alias Lovely, a resident of Uggi village. The IO said a case under Section 160, 148 and 149 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the accused and others.
