A man sustained serious injuries after being struck by a train near Santokhpura in Phagwara. The victim, identified as Chaman Lal, was reportedly sitting close to the railway tracks while smoking a beedi when the incident occurred.

According to initial reports, his scarf (parna) got entangled with a passing train, pulling him toward the tracks. One of his legs was crushed under the train, and he also suffered head injuries. Locals rushed to his aid and alerted the authorities.

He was first taken to the Civil Hospital in Phagwara, but due to the severity of his injuries, he was referred to Jalandhar for advanced treatment. Hospital sources confirmed that his leg had to be amputated.

The railway police have launched an investigation into the incident. The local community has expressed concern over the frequent presence of people near railway tracks and called for stricter safety awareness measures to prevent such tragedies.
