MC removes garbage dump in Phagwara

Acting on the directives of Punjab Local Bodies Minister Dr Ravjot Singh, the Municipal Corporation has successfully removed a longstanding garbage dump located in the CRP Colony, Urban Estate, Phagwara. The removal of the dump was welcomed by the local residents.

Municipal Commissioner Dr Akshita Gupta stated that the Punjab Government is committed to improving the urban sanitation system. During his recent surprise visit to Phagwara, Dr Ravjot Singh had expressed deep concern regarding sanitation issues. The MC chief acknowledged that the problem in CRP Colony was persistent and thanked the minister, mayor and councillors for their support in resolving it.

She announced that henceforth, dumping garbage in the cleared area will attract a fine of up to Rs 5,000 and emphasised the need for community cooperation, including the segregation of wet and dry waste at the household level.

Further, for the beautification and long-term development of the cleared site and its surrounding areas, the Municipal Corporation is in communication with the Jalandhar Development Authority (JDA), to which the Urban Estate belongs as per the jurisdiction. While the operation and maintenance responsibilities lie with the MC Phagwara, strategic collaboration with JDA is being pursued to ensure integrated and sustainable urban improvement.

Meanwhile, Mayor Ram Pal Uppal has urged every resident to consider cleanliness a personal responsibility.
