Members of the welfare committee of Saidon Naushehra village held a protest at the bus stand against accumulation of wastewater and poor condition of roads.
Committee members symbolically sowed paddy on the road and also burnt an effigy of the local administration.
Dharminder Singh, president of the Saidon Naushehra Welfare Committee, said the road from Hajipur to Thakurdwara was in a dilapidate condition. It turns into virtual pond after rain. Residents of around 35 villages have been facing inconvenience on a daily basis owing to poor condition of the road. Potholes on the stretch also lead to accident.
Accumulated wastewater poses threat of water-borne diseases such as malaria and dengue in the ongoing rainy season.
Villagers urged the BDPO and PWD Department to look into the matter at the earliest and make appropriate arrangements for drainage of wastewater and repair of road.
Kuldeep Singh Subedar, Tehal Singh Subedar, Advocate Rahul Behal, Mehnga Singh, Gurvinder Singh, Sukhdial Singh, Prem Chand, Paramjit Singh, Pankaj Kumar and Jarnail Singh were among those present on the occasion.
