The Apostolic Administrator of Jalandhar Diocese, Bishop Agnelo Rufino Gracias, led a short memorial service for Pope Francis at St Mary’s Cathedral in Jalandhar Cantonment here this evening.

The priests and nuns from all affiliated Catholic churches, Christian community, bureaucrats, several political leaders and social activists from across the city participated in the service. Among them were Commissioner of Police Dhanpreet Kaur, Deputy Commissioner Dr Himanshu Aggarwal, MP Ashok Mittal, Punjab minister Mohinder Bhagat, Mayor Vaneet Dhir, MLA Raman Arora, Jalandhar Improvement Trust Chairperson Rajwinder Kaur Thiara, ex-MLAs KD Bhandari and Surinder Chaudhary, Deepak Bali, and councillors from

Pope Francis had passed away on April 21. All Catholic institutions in the city including churches, educational institutes and hospitals are observing a nine-day mourning period. The followers will also be watching the live streaming of his funeral to be

held tomorrow.
