According to reports, Sat Kumar, along with co-worker Dharaminder Singh of Lohia, was returning to the factory after delivering tiles in Mehatpur using a tractor-trolley. On their way back, near the villages of Raut and Gehllan, the duo stopped to drink water from a motor pump running in nearby fields.

As Sat Kumar attempted to drink water directly from the pump, he received an electric shock. Dharaminder immediately informed the factory owners, who rushed to the scene and transported the worker to government hospital in Shahkot. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.

ASI Sarwan Singh, investigating officer, stated that proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC were initiated on the statement of the deceased’s wife Kajal. After a post-mortem examination, the body was handed over to the family.
