Cabinet Minister Brahm Shankar Jimpa inaugurated the first model coaching centre of the district in Government Senior Secondary Smart School, Ajjowal (near Verka milk plant) in Hoshiarpur. The coaching centre has been established by the Child Welfare Council and District Red Cross Society, in which Sonalika Development Society has extended special cooperation.

Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal, Mayor Surinder Kumar, SDM Sanjeev Sharma and Red Cross Society secretary Mangesh Sood were also present on the occasion.

Cabinet minister Jimpa said that the coaching centre is an important initiative for the students of slum and economically weaker sections (EWS) of society. Here, free coaching will be given to the students of medical and non-medical stream of Class XI and XII, so that they can prepare for competitive examinations in future and receive higher education.

He said that in future, preparations for tough competitive examinations like NEET and JEE will also be done at this centre so that these children get an opportunity to develop their abilities. Apart from this, career counselling will also be done to solve the problems faced by the students in course selection after Class XII.

Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chairperson, District Red Cross Society, Komal Mittal informed that the coaching centre will be run in collaboration with Child Welfare Council and Red Cross, Hoshiarpur.

Experienced teachers have been selected for the project and classes will be held in the morning and evening as per the convenience of students. She stressed that any needy student of Class XI or Class XII of medical or non-medical stream of the district can get free coaching at the centre.
