Meanwhile, an audio which is purportedly a call recording between Raman Arora and a local trader, went viral on Saturday. In the conversation, the trader, who is learnt to be running his business at Attari Bazaar here, tells Arora that he had already paid him Rs 5 lakh but the MC officials were still harassing him.

Arora is heard saying that they were not aware that ‘samaan’ (which supposedly is the cash) had reached him but he need not worry now and that he would convey about the same.

Reacting on the viral audio, Arora’s lawyer Darshan Dyal said, “We do not know what this audio is about. It is so far not a part of the case and the VB has not shared anything on it with us.”

The VB had sought his remand for a week but the court granted his custody for four days. It has been alleged that a bag containing Rs 29 lakh in cash had been recovered by the investigating agency from his place after his arrest.

VB arrests CA for accepting Rs 10 lakh bribe

The Vigilance Bureau (VB) had on Friday arrested Gursewak Singh, Chartered Accountant (CA), red-handed for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lakh on behalf of a CGST officer posted at Jalandhar.

The arrest was made following a complaint made by a firm owner, who is a resident of Jalandhar. The complainant had reportedly approached the VB alleging that the Chartered Accountant (CA) had demanded Rs 30 lakh from him on behalf of the above said CGST officer as bribe for benefiting him in an inquiry being conducted under the CGST Act against his firm.

The spokesperson further added that after a preliminary verification of this complaint, the VB flying squad laid a trap during which the accused CA was arrested red-handed while he was receiving Rs 10 lakh as the first installment of bribe from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

FIR No. 17 has been registered against the accused under Sections 7 and 7A of Prevention of Corruption Act and under Section 61(2) of BNS at VB police station, Flying Squad-1, at Mohali.
