A search operation carried out jointly by the jail staff and CRPF personnel inside Kapurthala Central Jail led to the recovery of a mobile phone from an inmate on Tuesday.

According to the prison authorities, the operation was conducted in the barracks to check for unauthorised items. During the inspection of Ward No. 1, inmate Kuldeep Singh, alias Khadi, 31, resident of Jagjit Nagar, Hamira, was subjected to a personal search. He was found in possession of a mobile phone concealed in the fold of his pyjama. The device contained a SIM card.

Officials said the recovery violates prison rules as inmates are strictly prohibited from possessing mobile phones or any communication devices. Following the seizure, a case has been registered against the prisoner under relevant provisions of law.
