Organised as part of civil defence efforts, the drill witnessed active participation from NCC and NSS students of various schools and colleges.
It simulated a swift and coordinated response to an air strike scenario, involving departments such as the Home Guards, Civil Defence, Health Department, Fire Brigade, Punjab Police and several NGOs.
The fire department was the first to respond, arriving with fire extinguishers to douse the flames. Rescue operations commenced promptly, with teams using stretchers to evacuate the injured. Medical personnel rushed in to administer first aid to burn victims and those suffering from asphyxiation or unconsciousness.
Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain, who attended the event, emphasised that the drill was part of the government’s vigilance policy to evaluate the district administration’s readiness and inter-departmental coordination in emergencies. She assured the public that it was a model exercise and there was no cause for panic. The drill was supervised by Sub Divisional Magistrate Gursimranjeet Kaur.
