Mother of an infant dies by suicide

In a shocking incident, a young woman, mother of an infant, died by suicide at Banga, Nawanshahr, on Tuesday. On a complaint by the deceased's mother Balwinder Kaur, the police filed a case of abetment of suicide against in-laws and husband of the victim.

According to the complaint filed by the mother, her daughter had got married to Harpreet Singh in 2022. "Within a year, they had problems in their marriage and the husband and in-laws would often taunt her and problems were increasing and their married life was a mess, " she alleged.

"In 2024, my daughter gave birth to a baby boy, but the problems only increased between them," the mother further said in her complaint. "I had recently gone to their house to make them understand that they should remain happy. My daughter told me that her husband was asking her to give her divorce and take Rs 15 lakh in return. When I came back and called my daughter, she didn't answer. After a few hours, her mother-in-law called me saying that she had consumed some poisonous substance and during treatment, she died".

The Nawanshahr police filed case against Harpreet Singh and in-laws under Section 108 of the BNS. As per information, the husband has been arrested.
