According to information, Harnek Singh, a resident of Adarsh Nagar, Phagwara, submitted a written complaint to the Kapurthala SSP alleging that Mitesh Soni, and his mother Meenu Soni, residents of Shakti Nagar, Jalandhar, cheated him of Rs 10 lakh on the pretext of a property deal.
Investigation revealed that Harnek Singh, who works as a property dealer, was acquainted with Ravinder Kumar. In December 2022, Ravinder Kumar, along with his wife Meenu Soni and son Mitesh Soni, visited Harnek Singh’s house in Phagwara and informed him that their properties were mortgaged with a bank and could face attachment due to non-payment of dues. They expressed an urgent need for money. Subsequently, a verbal agreement was made to sell an eight-marla house located in Seth Hukam Chand Colony, Canal Road, Jalandhar, for Rs 1.10 crore.
On December 12, 2022, Harnek Singh transferred Rs 10 lakh as advance payment from his bank account to accounts of Meenu Soni and Ravinder Kumar. However, despite repeated requests, the accused failed to execute the sale deed. Instead, they used the amount to clear the mortgage on the house, thereby releasing it from the bank, but did not fulfil their commitment to transfer ownership or return Harnek
Singh’s advance amount.
During this period, Ravinder Kumar passed away. After his death, Harnek Singh approached Meenu Soni and Mitesh Soni, demanding either registration of the property or the return of his money. However, the accused neither executed the sale deed nor refunded the amount. An inquiry conducted by the DSP, Bureau of Investigation (PBI), Homicide, and forensic officials, Kapurthala, confirmed that Meenu Soni and Mitesh Soni conspired to defraud Harnek Singh. Following legal advice and on the orders of Kapurthala SSP, an FIR was registered at the Satnampura police Station against the accused in this connection.
