Multiple drug seizures reported in Kapurthala dist

The cases, registered under various sections of the NDPS Act, highlight the district police’s continuing drive against drug trafficking and consumption.
The first incident was reported when a patrol team near Subhanpur received confidential information that Jagpreet Singh alias Billa, resident of Boot village, was waiting near the village cremation ground to supply narcotics. Acting promptly, the police team reached the indicated location and apprehended the suspect. A transparent plastic pouch wrapped in wax paper was recovered from him. On checking, 51 grams of intoxicant powder was found. A case under the NDPS Act was registered, and the accused was taken into custoday.
In another operation, a police team were conducting checking near Chok Satabgarh when a pedestrian, upon seeing the police, attempted to dispose of a black, wax-coated packet. He was overpowered and identified as Jasvir Singh alias Happy, resident of Deepwal. The packet he tried to discard was found to contain 115 intoxicant tablets. He too was booked and arrested under the NDPS Act.
In a separate case during patrolling near Matu Dhaba close to Dana Mandi Chohla Dhanna. The police team noticed a youth holding a black wax-wrapped packet who started moving quickly towards Khera Dona village after noticing the police. He was apprehended and identified as Amrik Singh alias Khanda, resident of Khera Dona Colony. The police recovered 125 intoxicant tablets and 20 grams of heroin from his possession. A case under Sections 22 NDPS Act and Section 42 of the Prisons Act was registered against him.
A notable incident occurred inside Kapurthala Central Jail, where Nirpdeep Singh, Assistant Superintendent, reported that during a mandatory bodily search of inmate Jasvir Singh resident of Begowal, jail authorities recovered a black, wax-wrapped packet of 30 grams of narcotic substance. The material was seized and an NDPS case was registered through the local police station.
Meanwhile, Subhanpur police arrested one person identified as Jot Singh alias Jhoda, resident of Hameera village. The suspect was spotted while the police team was patrolling near Hameera Bridge. Upon noticing the police, the youth allegedly threw a transparent wax-coated packet on the roadside and attempted to flee. He was nabbed, and the packet was found to contain 6 grams of heroin. An FIR under the NDPS Act has been lodged.
In another case, Phagwara police received specific inputs from a confidential informer that Sonu alias Bhindi, son of Jograj, a resident of Gali No. 08, Balmik Mohalla, Phagwara, was standing outside his house waiting for customers to sell intoxicant tablets. Acting swiftly, the police reached the mentioned location and apprehended the suspect. The team recovered 40 narcotic tablets, marked “ALP”, from his possession. A case under the NDPS Act was subsequently registered.
The series of recoveries over the past days illustrate an ongoing pattern of street-level drug distribution networks operating across rural and urban pockets of Kapurthala district. Police officials reiterate that routine patrols, informer-led operations, and jail vigilance continue to play a crucial role in intercepting narcotics and preventing their circulation.
