It was conducted by Harpal Singh, District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, District Legal Services Authority. On the occasion, seven benches were constituted at District Court Kapurthala, three at Phagwara subdivision, one at Sultanpur Lodhi subdivision and one at Bholath, besides five revenue benches.
In today’s National Lok Adalat, criminally compoundable cases, Section 138 Negotiable Instruments Act, bank recovery cases, MACT cases, labour matters, electricity and water bills matters, matrimonial matters, land expropriation cases, service matters, revenue cases and other civil matters, rent, injunction suits, and pending and pre-litigation cases were included.
As many as 7,342 cases were admitted in the National Lok Adalat by the judicial and revenue courts, out of which 1,577 cases were settled and a sum of Rs 10,94,37,780 awarded as compensation. On the occasion, Rana Kanwardeep Kaur Chahal, Additional District and Sessions Judge, Kapurthala, said settling a case in Lok Adalat saves both time and money as no appeal against its decision was filed in any higher court.
