Nawanshahr administration on high alert to prevent breach expansion

With the Sutlej's water level rising over the past few days, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Nawanshahr, Rajiv Verma visited the vulnerable berm areas near the villages of Burj Tehaldas and Pandarawal to oversee preventive measures today.

Administration officials have assured the villagers that they are actively working to strengthen the berm and control the breach to prevent further damage.

Accompanied by officials from departments, Verma stated that the river is flowing around 60,000 cusecs. In response, the Drainage Department has placed sandbags to seal a breach of over 30 feet in the berm at Pandarawal, and additional steps have been taken to prevent it from expanding. He emphasised that every necessary measure is being taken to safeguard the lives and property of residents near the dhussi bundh.

Reviewing the situation near village Tajowal, the ADC noted that the river flow has increased from 35,000–38,000 cusecs in a few days ago. He added that the administration remains on high alert and in the event of any breach, immediate action will be taken to manage the situation.

He has made an appeal to the residents living near the bundh to promptly report any breach or emergency to the district control room to enable swift response.
