NHRC finds violations in hospital, Modern Jail in Kapurthala

National Human Right Commission special monitor Bal Krishan Goyal today said the commission has found many irregularities and violations during checking of the Civil Hospital and Modern Jail.

During his two-day visit to Kapurthala, the commission special monitor today visited hospital and met patients and checked the hospital and also held a meeting with the health authorities. He found shortage of staff, equipment and also took cognisance of the inordinate delay in the construction of medical college at Kapurthala.

He told mediapersons that he would bring it to the notice of the commission regarding inordinate delay in the construction of the medical college despite the release of Central funds of several crores.

Goel said he has asked for the detailed reports of the hospital and the commission team would analyse data and submit its confidential report to its chairman.

The special monitor, who is on a six-day visit to Punjab, has visited Pathankot, Sangrur and Kapurthala.

Addressing the district officers, Goel urged officials to take a responsible role in promoting human rights awareness across the district during a meeting at the District Administrative Complex .

DC Amit Kumar Panchal and SSP Gaurav Toora also addressed the meeting and assured the commission to check violations of human rights in the district .
