Residents of Urban Estate, Phase 1, who purchased houses after 2010, have been demanding a green belt and a road behind houses numbered 1 to 8 for several years. On Thursday, their representatives met the Estate Officer, Jalandhar Development Authority (EO-JDA), to reiterate their demand for adherence to the original layout plan, which shows a road and green belt behind the said houses.

The residents voiced concerns over the removal of guide maps from the main road of the colony on January 31. They said these guide maps, installed by the JDA in 2010, remained in place until their recent removal. The residents insisted that the JDA must follow the approved layout plan of guide maps, while arguing that any deviation was unacceptable.

Besides, they raised objections regarding the alleged exchange of 1,934 square yards of land behind their houses and expressed frustration over the lack of response to their pending Right to Information applications.

“The EO-JDA, who also serves as the first appellate authority for the RTI matters, has assured us that she would take up the issue with officials concerned and give responses at the earliest,” said Harvinder Singh, one of the residents.
