Amid rising public concern due to recent tensions near the border, Kapurthala Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal has assured residents that there is no shortage of essential commodities in the district. Items such as fuel, LPG, ration supplies, fruits, vegetables and other daily necessities are available in sufficient quantities, he said in a public address.

To curb the possibility of hoarding and black marketing, the district administration has invoked the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, along with Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code, 2023. These measures place strict restrictions on the storage of essential items and are aimed at maintaining stable supply and pricing in the market during this period of heightened public uncertainty.
