Phagwara: On a complaint lodged by a villager, Paramjit Singh of Nasirabad village, the police registered a case under Section 376 of the IPC and Sections 4 and 6 of the POCSO Act against a village youth on the charge of rape. SHO Amandeep Kaur said the complainant said his 16-year-old daughter was studying at a village school and the accused was her senior. He befriended his daughter and raped her on the pretext of marriage. The accused was still at large, but would be held soon, said the SHO. OC

2 mobile phone snatchers held

Phagwara: The police arrested two snatchers and recovered a mobile phone from them. The accused, Ravi Kumar of Mandhali village and Damandeep of Kultham village snatched a phone from one Amanpreet Singh near the Rest House. A case under the IPC has been registered. OC

House burgled, Rs 50,000 stolen

Phagwara: The house of one Kulwinder Singh was reportedly found burgled in Greater Kailash Colony here on Wednesday. The victim told the police that he and his family members were away to Ludhiana, but found his house ransacked and burgled upon their return. He said the valuable domestic goods and Rs 50,000 cash were found missing. The police have registered a case under the relevant sections of the IPC. OC

Five booked, two held for theft

Hoshiarpur: The district police registered three cases of theft in different police stations and booked five accused. Two of them have been arrested. In the first case, a farmer of Ahirana Khurd village lodged a complaint with the police that accused Surinder Singh along with Bhupinder Singh stole valuables from his tubewell. In the second case, Harpreet Singh of Bilaspur and Rohit Kumar of Kotla were held with stolen items at a police naka. In the third case, Nirmal Singh of Sunni village told the police that unidentified thieves stole gold ornaments from his house. The police have registered cases.
