Over 500 take part in Nawanshahr police’s anti-drug sport event

The Nawanshahr police took a unique approach to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drugs by organising an anti-drug ‘Athletic Meet’ today at the ITI Ground. The event, which started at 10 am, was part of a broader campaign to educate the public on the adverse impacts of drug addiction.

The athletic meet featured a variety of events, including 100m, 400m, and 1,500m races, along with long jump competitions for different age groups. Approximately 500 participants from across Punjab and neighbouring states enthusiastically took part, promoting the message of living a drug-free and healthy life.

Winners in the top four positions of each event were awarded with cash prizes and trophies, with separate awards for boys and girls. All participants received certificates of participation and refreshments as a token of appreciation for their involvement.

Adding to the event’s excitement, a volleyball match was also organised, and both participating teams were felicitated with cash prizes.

During the meet, police officials highlighted their ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse.

In 2024, they apprehended 639 drug peddlers and registered 572 cases under the anti-drug drive. The district police reaffirmed their commitment to taking strict action against drug peddlers and pledged to continue organising such events to promote awareness and encourage youth participation

in sports.

The initiative served as a platform to spread the crucial message of staying away from drugs while fostering a spirit of health and community through sports.
