Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal today said that the procurement of paddy has begun smoothly in the district and the crop coming to the mandis was being purchased by the procurement agencies. She said that 9,977 metric tons (MT) of paddy arrived in the mandis of the district by this evening out of which 6,158 metric tons of paddy has been purchased. She said that out of the paddy purchased so far in the district, 2,695 MT has been purchased by Pungrain, 488 MT by Markfed, 323 MT by Punsup, 1,871 MT by Punjab State Warehousing Corporation and 781 MT by the FCI. Instructions for making simultaneous payment for the crop purchased by the government were being implemented at the ground level by the procurement agencies, she said and added that 65 procurement centres have been set up in the district where all necessary arrangements have been made for the convenience of farmers.
