DSP Vijay Kanwar Pal, who is investigating this case, said the accused had been identified as Ranndeep Kaur, alias Rajwinder Kaur, of Punia Mand village. Sodhi of Lasoorri village had complained to the police that he had paid Rs 43 lakh to the accused for facilitating his migration to Canada. However, he was neither sent abroad, nor returned the money. oc
PO arrested after one year
Phagwara: The police have arrested a proclaimed offender (PO), absconding for the past one year. The accused has been identified as Binder Singh, a resident of Bajwa Kalan village. He was wanted in a case of outraging a woman’s modesty in 2021 and was declared PO in 2023. oc
Man arrested for theft
Phagwara: The police have arrested a person of Moga district on the charge of stealing a farmer’s tiller. The accused has been identified as Akash Kumar, alias Kaku, of Raja Wal village. Gurbhej Singh of Jaffar Wal village complained to the police in 2022 that the accused had stolen a tractor tiller and an engine from his shed. A case was registered against the accused in March 2022. oc
Youth booked for abduction
Phagwara: On a complaint lodged by a woman Rubi Kumari, a resident of village Khajurala, the police have registered a case under Section 346 of IPC against two youths, identified as Bihar migrants Nitish and Amit, on the charge of abducting the minor daughter of the complainant. The girl was missing since July 26. The police are investigating the matter. oc
Two bike thieves booked
Phagwara: The police have booked two thieves and recovered a motorcycle belonging to Neeraj of village Simbli. SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti said the accused were identified as Shiv Charan of village Rampur-Sunrra and Sukhbir Singh of village Rihana-Jattan. The SP said Shiv Charan has been arrested while Sukhbir was still at large. SP Bhatti further said that both these accused were also booked in a case of cattle theft pertaining to Ram Singh in village Bhabhiana. — oc
Man held, arms seized
Phagwara: The police have arrested a person and recovered a country-made pistol and nine cartridges from him under provisions of the Arms Act. The accused Ravi had an illegal weapon and was cleaning it when he sustained gunshot injuries in his left leg. The case of accidental firing is also being ascertained. SP Bhatti said that the arrested accused was produced before a local judicial magistrate who sent him to two days of police remand for further investigations.
