The third event of the 2025 Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) NexGen season, the Phillaur Open, presented by RS Gill, got off to a start on Tuesday at the Ranjitgarh Golf Club, Phillaur. The event will conclude on March 27. The Pro-Am event was held on March 23.

RS Gill, renowned lawyer, avid golfer and father of BJP national spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill, is hosting the event, marking the return of professional golf and the PGTI to Phillaur after a 14-year hiatus. The tournament offers a Rs 20 lakh prize money and is being played over three rounds (54 holes), with the cut applied after two rounds (36 holes). The top 36 players and ties will advance to the final round.

The event features a field of 90 professionals, including national players and emerging talent. Notably, the winner will earn an exemption for the 2026 PGTI main tour.

RS Gill, presenting partner said, “I’m delighted to collaborate with PGTI and the Ranjitgarh Golf Club to bring professional golf back to Phillaur after 14 years. This event will play a vital role in promoting the sport in Punjab and nurturing local golfing talent. I extend my best wishes to all the players.”

Jaiveer Shergill, BJP national spokesperson, told the media, “Our family is hosting this national event in Punjab with two key objectives. First is to put Punjab and its players on the national golfing map. The second aim is to raise awareness about eradicating drug abuse by channeling the youth’s energy toward sports.”

Amandeep Johl, CEO, PGTI, shared, “We’re thrilled to return to Phillaur, an important golfing hub in Punjab. Punjab has consistently produced top golfers, both professionals and amateurs, in men’s and women’s categories. Hosting PGTI in Punjab ensures that the pipeline for future golfing stars remains strong.”
