Phillaur SDM reviews flood measures during late-night visit

Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Phillaur, Parleen Kaur, conducted a late-night inspection of low-lying areas under her jurisdiction to assess the flood preparedness arrangements in place.

During her visit, she reassured local residents that there was no cause for panic, as the district administration had implemented comprehensive measures to handle any potential flood situation.

Kaur outlined that, under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Dr Himanshu Aggarwal, the administration had ensured the availability of essential flood management resources, including sandbags, machinery, rescue teams, relief camps, tarpaulins, ration supplies, fodder, and medicines.

The SDM also informed that due to persistent rainfall over the past few days, water had been released from the Ropar headworks into the Sutlej River, which could result in a rise in the water levels. As a precautionary measure, she urged residents to stay clear of the riverbanks and to move to higher ground, where relief camps had already been set up, if necessary.

Kaur further mentioned that dedicated flood control rooms have been established both at the district level (0181-2224417) and at the Phillaur sub-division level (01826-224117). She encouraged residents to contact these numbers for any flood-related information or assistance. The SDM’s visit aimed to ensure that the local community remains well-informed and prepared for any flood risks in the coming days.
