Phagwara Police conduct late-night checking drive at Law Gate

In a move to maintain law and order in the university belt, the Phagwara Police conducted an extensive vehicle-checking and surveillance operation at Law Gate near Lovely Professional University late on Saturday night. The operation, led by Superintendent of Police Phagwara Madhvi Sharma (PPS), began around midnight with a dedicated police team deployed in the area.

The drive focused on scrutinising vehicles in and around the Law Gate area, a hub frequented by youth and commuters, especially during late-night hours. Police officers conducted thorough identity verification of individuals present and examined relevant documents. The operation aimed to curb illegal activities and ensure the safety of students and the general public.

Shops that were found to be operating beyond the permitted closing hours were also inspected.

Authorities issued strict warnings to shopkeepers to comply with government-mandated operating hours, emphasising that violations would lead to future legal action.

As a result of the drive, 14 motorcycles were issued challans for various violations, while four motorcycles and three cars were impounded. In a significant find, a sharp-edged weapon (datar) was recovered from one of the vehicles, prompting preventive action against seven individuals traveling in it.

Superintendent of Police Madhvi Sharma confirmed that such surprise operations will be a regular feature in the city to deter criminal activity and ensure safety, particularly around educational institutions.
